Anguilla footballer Scipio’s unusually long hair became an unexpected feature of a CONCACAF Nations League match, with two Antigua and Barbuda players sent off after pulling his hair.
Anguilla suffered a 5-0 defeat to Antigua and Barbuda, but the unusual incidents involving 36-year-old Scipio attracted attention during the match. The forward came on in the 69th minute, by which time Anguilla were already five goals behind.
Two Players Sent Off for Pulling Scipio’s Hair
Scipio’s hair, which reportedly reached almost to his ankles, became involved in two separate incidents late in the match.
Several minutes after entering the game, Antigua and Barbuda’s Kevin Greene grabbed Scipio’s hair as the Anguilla player attempted to run with the ball. The referee responded by showing Greene a straight red card.
The unusual incident was repeated during stoppage time when Shalon Knight also pulled Scipio’s hair while attempting to stop him. Knight was subsequently sent off as well.
Despite leading 5-0, Antigua and Barbuda therefore finished the match with nine players.
