In India’s Uttar Pradesh state, a car plunged 50 feet from a broken bridge into a river in the Faridpur area, resulting in the deaths of three people, including two brothers.
According to Indian media, the victims were traveling from Bareilly to Dataganj, relying on GPS for navigation via Google Maps.
During the journey, the car mistakenly drove onto an under-construction bridge, the front portion of which had collapsed during heavy rains. The vehicle then fell into the Ramganga River.
The victims’ families blamed the authorities, stating that no barricades had been placed to block the incomplete bridge. They added that the initial portion of the bridge appeared intact, leading the travelers to drive on it, unaware that the rest of the bridge was missing.
An Assistant Commissioner explained that while the bridge’s front portion had collapsed into the river, this change was not updated in the GPS system, leaving the car occupants unaware of the danger.
Among the deceased were Amit and Vivek Kumar, residents of Farrukhabad. The identity of the third victim is yet to be confirmed.
