GUJRAT: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Green Electric Bus Service in Gujrat through video link on Wednesday, introducing modern public transport under the provincial government’s transport initiative.

In the first phase, 11 electric buses have been deployed in the district. The buses have begun operating on the Gujrat–Mangowal and Gujrat–Daulat Nagar routes.

Officials said the fleet would be expanded to 28 electric buses in September, while the service would also be introduced on additional routes across the district.

The fare has been fixed at Rs20 per passenger, making the service an affordable transport option for local residents.

The buses are equipped with wheelchair ramps to improve accessibility for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Deputy Commissioner Noor-ul-Ain Qureshi, MPA Abdullah Yousaf and other government officials attended the inauguration ceremony.

According to officials, the Green Electric Bus Service is intended to provide residents with safe, affordable and environmentally friendly public transport while reducing dependence on conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
