Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing two children in Scotland.
The 49-year-old was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on September 29 after being found guilty of two charges involving lewd and libidinous behaviour towards a girl and a boy who were primary school pupils when the abuse began.
According to the Scottish judiciary, the offences against the girl occurred between 1993 and 1996, while the abuse involving the boy took place between 2006 and 2010. The court heard that the offences included sexual contact and other abusive behaviour.
Judge Lord Harrower said Dott’s conduct involved a serious breach of trust and that the victims had suffered lasting effects from the abuse. The seven-year sentence was backdated to August 24, 2026, when Dott was remanded in custody.
Dott had denied the charges but was convicted following a five-day trial at the High Court in Glasgow in August. He continues to maintain his innocence, according to the sentencing statement.
Following the sentencing, Dott was also placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
Graeme Dott’s Snooker Career
Dott turned professional in 1994 and won the World Snooker Championship in 2006, defeating Peter Ebdon in the final at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre.
He also reached the World Championship final in 2004 and 2010, finishing runner-up on both occasions. Following his conviction, his name was removed from the World Snooker Hall of Fame.
