ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar on Tuesday said that the Prime Minister has no ambiguity regarding the Madras Amendment Bill 2024 and the government could meet JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman and discuss it in a hackneyed manner.
Responding to criticism of Maulana Fazl’s government for allegedly dodging the issue, the minister told the National Assembly session that the prime minister was more than willing to resolve any issue amicably.
He said no legislation would pass without a presidential nod, although the president could not object to any bill a second time.
“Article 75 provides that the President shall approve any bill within 10 days or he may return it to Parliament,” the law minister said. And when the bill was returned, he said, it was presented to a joint session of parliament for approval (with or without amendments).
He said the federal government was fulfilling its responsibilities and was ready to extend all assistance to the provinces to ensure peace. She has assured the KP administration of support on the smoldering Kurram issue, he added.
The minister said the governor, as the representative of the federation, had organized a jirga (meeting of eminent persons) to help allay the concerns of the stakeholders. According to him, he would appreciate any such step by the Chief Minister.
“The Home Minister has also been instructed to monitor the situation in Kurram,” he said.
