ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government will not leave economically vulnerable segments of society alone during difficult times and is working to expand relief measures for low- and middle-income groups.
The remarks came during a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister to review Pakistan’s fuel reserves and ongoing public relief initiatives. The meeting also examined the implementation of fuel conservation measures and progress on austerity steps, with an audit report presented by the Intelligence Bureau.
Officials briefed the meeting that sufficient fuel reserves are currently available to meet national requirements, with arrangements in place to ensure continued supply. It was also noted that the country has adequate stocks of medicines to meet public needs.
Fuel availability and cost measures
The meeting was informed that an increase in levy on high-octane fuel for large vehicles has not affected jet fuel prices. Officials said government decisions have ensured the availability of petroleum products across the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government had initiated austerity measures by reducing official expenditures, including cuts in development spending and the immediate reduction of 60 percent of government vehicles.
Relief efforts for public
The prime minister said proposals to increase fuel prices had been repeatedly rejected, and savings generated through cost-cutting measures were being redirected toward public relief.
He emphasized that digital systems would be used to ensure relief measures reach the general public effectively.
Focus on economic stability and diplomacy
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the prime minister said efforts are ongoing to provide further support to vulnerable and middle-income groups.
He added that despite ongoing challenges, timely decisions have ensured uninterrupted fuel supply in the country.
