Google is making significant changes regarding location history. The company has announced that all location history saved in Google Maps will soon be deleted. This will include the data from the timeline feature that Google Maps tracks and stores about your activities.

In fact, after the new update, past data will no longer be stored in Google Maps. Users will soon be informed about the changes in location history. Starting from December 1, 2024, data older than three months will begin to be deleted.

It is important to note that since December 2023, Google has been storing your location history on your devices rather than on Google Cloud. However, after the new update, even the data stored on your devices will be deleted.

If you rely on Google Maps’ timeline feature for past trips or cherished memories, you should take immediate steps to save this data. Google has advised users to download and save any location history data older than three months by December 8.

After December 8, all unsaved data will be permanently deleted. To save this data, visit takeout.google.com, unselect all options except Location History (Timeline), click on the Next Step, and then select the “Create Export” option. Once the export process is complete, you will have a saved copy of your timeline data.
