Internet search engine Google has been storing users’ data, including location history, on devices and Google Cloud. While Google began saving location history on users’ devices rather than the cloud in 2023, the company has now confirmed plans to delete this data.
According to Google, users’ location history on Google Maps will be automatically deleted after three months. This means only the most recent three months of location data will be available, with older data being removed every subsequent three months.
Google clarified this decision in a blog post and through emails sent to users.
It has long been speculated that Google stored location history on Maps to gather user information, which could be used for advertising and other purposes. However, the company has now announced its commitment to deleting users’ location history.
