Calling for a comprehensive global framework, Senator Rehman stressed that AI systems must remain safe, secure, and trustworthy. She emphasized alignment with international human rights laws and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that AI serves the public good.

To promote equity in AI innovation, she proposed facilitating technology transfers and ensuring affordable access to infrastructure. She also highlighted the importance of making quality datasets and critical data available to developing nations. Senator Rehman called for the creation of a United Nations Artificial Intelligence Fund to support sustainable financing and capacity-building.

She underscored the need for equitable representation of developing countries within the Global Dialogue on AI Governance and related panels. This, she noted, would ensure regional realities are reflected in global outcomes. Senator Rehman also addressed the urgent need to protect citizens—especially children, youth, and the elderly—by safeguarding privacy, raising awareness about deepfakes, and tackling data misuse and algorithmic bias.

Highlighting Pakistan’s progress, she shared that the country has adopted the National Artificial Intelligence Policy 2025. This roadmap focuses on human capital investment, infrastructure development, and robust data protection regulations to ensure safe AI adaptation.

“Artificial Intelligence must become a driver of common public good and shared prosperity,” Senator Rehman affirmed. She reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working constructively with the United Nations and global partners to advance responsible and equitable AI governance.
