District Police Officer (DPO) Nazeer Khan said the blast occurred in the Wanda Zahid Gul area, within the jurisdiction of Daddiwala Police Station. The explosion, carried out using an improvised explosive device (IED), damaged part of the school building.

“Two IEDs had been planted inside the school premises. One exploded, while the other was discovered during inspection and successfully defused by the bomb disposal squad,” DPO Khan told local media.

Following the incident, a heavy contingent of police was deployed to the area, and a search operation was launched to trace those involved in the attack.

Lakki Marwat has long been considered a hotspot of militancy and unrest. While counter-terrorism operations in the past brought relative calm to the region, recent years have seen a resurgence of militant activity, raising fears of renewed instability.

Earlier this month, terrorists carried out multiple attacks in the district, leaving three soldiers and a woman dead, and injuring three others, including two security personnel. On August 13, militants also blew up a gas pipeline in Lakki Marwat, causing disruption of gas supplies to Punjab.

The latest incident has once again highlighted the fragile security situation in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where schools, pipelines, and security forces remain frequent targets of militant violence.
