Taxila: Former federal minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan has called for the creation of smaller provinces in Pakistan, saying the move could strengthen national unity, security and access to justice.
Speaking at a press conference at the Wahdat Colony Public Secretariat in Taxila, Khan said Punjab should be divided into four provinces, while the other provinces should also be reorganized into smaller administrative units so people could receive services and justice closer to home.
Calls for implementation of Supreme Court verdict
Khan also discussed the political situation surrounding former prime minister Imran Khan, claiming that he had been kept in solitary confinement for eight months and had not been allowed to meet his family.
He said he opposed confrontation in politics and argued that continued political conflict had caused losses to the state. He called for the implementation of the Supreme Court’s verdict.
Khan further questioned what he described as contradictory government positions regarding Imran Khan’s possible treatment abroad, saying that reports of permission for overseas medical treatment should be consistent with any restrictions imposed on him.
Says Army is central to national security
Addressing criticism of the Pakistan Army, Khan said the armed forces should not be portrayed as an enemy of the people. He urged young people to view the military as a national institution responsible for the country’s security.
He also criticized Pakistani YouTubers based abroad who, according to him, spread hostile content about the country. He said criticism of the armed forces should not be equated with criticism of Pakistan itself.
Khan said the country needed political stability and a stronger sense of national unity.
Former MNA Mansoor Hayat Khan, former MPA Ammar Siddique Khan, Haji Chan Shah Kazmi, Malik Azhar Nawaz, also known as Aji Malik, and former Nazim Malik Pervez were also present at the press conference.
