Islamabad: The federal government is considering expanding Pakistan’s fuel relief scheme to provide financial assistance to more citizens struggling with rising petrol prices.
Under the proposed expansion, the number of beneficiaries could increase from 12.7 million to 20 million, potentially extending relief to millions of additional people.
According to Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah, a proposal to expand the petrol relief programme is under consideration. However, no final decision has been made, and the government has not announced an implementation date.
Under the existing scheme, eligible motorcycle riders, three-wheeler users and owners of vehicles with engine capacities below 800cc may receive petrol relief of up to Rs100 per litre.
The government is examining different options to expand the programme and reduce the financial burden of rising transportation costs on the public.
If approved, the proposed expansion could allow millions more people to benefit from the initiative. However, details regarding the relief amount, eligibility criteria and registration procedure have not yet been announced.
Until the government issues an official notification, the existing scheme’s rules will remain in place. Citizens are advised to wait for an official announcement before assuming that the proposed expansion has been approved.
