The Punjab government has decided to include students from private educational institutions in its free laptop scheme, extending access to digital learning for thousands of additional students across the province.
Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar said 10,000 laptops will be distributed to private school students within the year, following approval from the competent authority. The move is expected to ease financial pressure on families and support students who rely increasingly on technology for education and skills development.
The minister also announced that Punjab’s education development budget has been increased to Rs110 billion, underlining the government’s focus on expanding infrastructure and improving learning outcomes.
During 2025, the government upgraded 268 schools and issued decisions in 37 cases related to teacher harassment, steps aimed at strengthening institutional accountability and creating safer learning environments. For the first time, the province has also introduced the Teacher Takreem Awards to formally recognize the contributions of educators.
In addition, work has begun on establishing Centres of Excellence in 10 districts, alongside the development of 300 Schools of Eminence across Punjab. Officials say these initiatives are part of a broader effort to modernize education and expand equal opportunities for students, regardless of whether they study in public or private institutions.
