At least four civilians were killed and a child was seriously injured after cross-border shelling struck a residential area in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, according to officials.
Local authorities said the attack occurred around 3:30 pm in the Tabesta Letai area of Salarzai tehsil, where a house was hit by artillery or mortar fire from across the Pakistan–Afghanistan border.
The victims were identified as Sajid, Ayaz, Riaz and Muaz, who were brothers, officials said. A five-year-old child was also injured in the incident and was reported to be in critical condition.
Residents of the area condemned the attack and expressed anger over the loss of civilian lives.
Officials said Pakistani forces responded to the source of the cross-border fire and took action against positions believed to be responsible for the shelling.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border following ongoing security operations in the region. Authorities said the situation is being monitored and additional security measures are being taken in border areas.
