At least 28 people have died and 29 others have been injured after heavy rains and flash floods swept across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since July 19, causing widespread damage to homes and infrastructure, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The severe weather has affected multiple districts, with authorities continuing rescue and relief operations while urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and follow official weather advisories.
Children among the dead
According to the PDMA, the death toll includes 10 men, 15 children and three women, while the injured comprise 13 men, nine women and seven children.
Many casualties occurred after roofs and walls collapsed during heavy rainfall or people were swept away by flash floods.
Homes damaged across several districts
The PDMA said 47 houses were damaged, including 37 partially damaged and 10 completely destroyed.
The affected districts include Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi, Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Upper Kohistan, Tank, Torghar, Kurram, and North and South Waziristan.
Relief operations underway
The PDMA said it is coordinating relief efforts with Rescue 1122, district administrations and other relevant departments.
District authorities have been directed to accelerate relief operations and ensure the prompt delivery of assistance and essential supplies to affected families.
Public advised to avoid risky travel
The disaster management authority has urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from vulnerable tourist destinations and strictly follow official weather alerts and advisories.
According to the Director General of PDMA, the authority’s Emergency Operations Centre remains fully operational. Residents can report emergencies or obtain weather-related information by calling the PDMA helpline (1700).
