ATTOCK: Police have arrested five suspects after a video allegedly showing the unlawful detention and assault of two young men in the Haji Shah area of Attock went viral on social media, officials said.

According to police, the incident came to light after a video circulated online showing individuals allegedly torturing two men accused of theft. District Police Officer (DPO) Sardar Mawarhan Khan took notice of the matter and directed Attock Khurd Police to register a case and arrest those involved.

The case was registered on the complaint of Khan Afsar, who alleged that several individuals entered his home, verbally abused family members, and forcibly took away his brother, Asif, along with his friend Muhammad Faizan.

Victims allegedly tied up and assaulted

According to the complainant, he and his father later traced the two men to a camp where they allegedly found them tied with ropes and being beaten with sticks.

The complaint states that one of the suspects was recording the incident on a mobile phone while others allegedly participated in the assault. The complainant further alleged that the suspects threatened family members when they attempted to intervene.

After negotiations and repeated requests, the two men were reportedly released.

Police launch action after viral video

Police said the suspects allegedly accused the victims of theft and subjected them to physical violence rather than reporting the matter to law enforcement authorities.

Following the registration of the case, Attock Khurd Police conducted raids and, with the assistance of modern technology, arrested five suspects allegedly involved in the incident.

Authorities said further investigation is underway, and legal proceedings will continue in accordance with the law.

Police officials reiterated that individuals accused of crimes must be dealt with through legal channels and that taking the law into one’s own hands is a criminal offense.
