FIFA has cancelled around 2,000 hotel rooms in Philadelphia that had been reserved for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, part of a broader adjustment affecting all 16 host cities, according to local hospitality officials.
The move comes months before Philadelphia is set to host five group-stage matches and a Round of 16 fixture at Lincoln Financial Field, raising concerns within the city’s hotel industry about booking expectations and demand planning.
Hotel industry response
Ed Grose, president of the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association, said the organisation was disappointed by the reduction in bookings but remained optimistic about overall demand.

Demand outlook and upcoming events
Philadelphia is also scheduled to host major conventions in June, including the Drug Information Association and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, which could help offset any short-term impact on hotel occupancy.
