The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested four suspects, including three National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) officials, in connection with an alleged network accused of helping Afghan nationals obtain Pakistani national identity cards using fraudulent documents.
The arrests were made during a joint intelligence-based operation conducted by the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle in coordination with other law enforcement agencies. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and may lead to additional arrests.
NADRA Officials Among Those Arrested
According to an FIA spokesperson, the suspects include:
- Inam-ul-Haq, Assistant Director, NADRA
- Fayyaz Ahmed, Deputy Assistant Director, NADRA
- Junaid Ahmed, a security guard at NADRA
- Muhammad Umar Shah, a private agent
The FIA alleges that the suspects facilitated the issuance of identity documents for Afghan nationals through forged records, document manipulation, and other illegal means.
Investigation Expands
The agency said investigators have seized documents and other evidence during the operation and have widened the scope of the inquiry.
According to the FIA, preliminary findings indicate the alleged network may have links that require further investigation. The agency said these aspects of the case are being examined as part of the ongoing probe.
FIA Vows Continued Action
The FIA said further arrests and disclosures are expected as the investigation progresses.
The agency added that it remains committed to taking action against organized networks involved in the illegal issuance of identity documents and other crimes affecting national security.
