Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Muqam, addressed the Peshawar High Court Bar Association, calling it his identity and home.
During his speech, the Federal Minister presented a check of one crore rupees to the Peshawar High Court Bar on behalf of the federal government. The check was handed over to Bar President Ameen-ur-Rehman Advocate. On this occasion, the Bar’s General Secretary Ashfaq Dawoodzai, other cabinet members, and lawyers were also present.
Engineer Amir Muqam assured that he would consider the lawyers’ demands sympathetically and conveyed greetings to the Bar on behalf of Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar. He praised the role of lawyers in democracy, rule of law, and the provision of justice, and referred to the judicial legacy of the Peshawar High Court as a “highway of justice.”
In his address, the Federal Minister said that the desire of Leader Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is to provide relief to lawyers. He termed the 26th Constitutional Amendment a positive step and said that the integrity of Pakistan remains the top priority of the government.
He credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s timely strategy for delivering a firm response to Indian aggression and enhancing the dignity of the green passport. Referring to recent tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), he mentioned holding a public rally in Neelum Valley despite the threat of Indian aggression, to demonstrate that the Pakistani nation is dignified and resilient.
Engineer Amir Muqam described the issues of Palestine and Kashmir as humanitarian crises, strongly condemned Israeli aggression, and welcomed the potential ceasefire in Iran. He praised the spirit of solidarity between the Pakistan Army and the people in Azad Kashmir.
While discussing the current government’s economic policies, he highlighted signs of economic improvement, including reduced inflation, stabilization of the rupee, and a decrease in interest rates. Despite the IMF agreement, he said the government is striving to provide relief to the public.
Speaking on the issues following the FATA merger, he emphasized that the sacrifices of FATA residents cannot be ignored. A high-level committee has been established to revive the Jirga system, with consultation from senior lawyers.
He stressed that he represents the people, not any single political party, and that the provincial government must pay attention to public concerns.
He criticized the performance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and revealed that he had endured seven suicide attacks but always stood by the truth.
In conclusion, he stated that his office is always open for lawyers and promised never to disappoint them. He appealed to the public, lawyers, and all institutions to unite for the development and stability of Pakistan.
