The federal government has declared a four-day public holiday for Eid al-Adha, scheduled from June 6 to June 9, 2025. According to a press release issued by the Cabinet Division, all government offices will remain closed during this period. The notification, issued under reference number 2025/10-1, informs all institutions about the holiday. This decision was made following approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. During this festival, Muslims slaughter animals like cows, goats, sheep, or camels, following Islamic guidelines, and distribute the meat among family members, relatives, and those in need.¹ The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed that Eid al-Adha will be observed across Pakistan from Saturday, June 7, 2025, as the Zil Hajj moon was not sighted on Tuesday. The committee announced that the first day of Zil Hajj 1446 AH will be observed on Thursday, May 29.
The four-day holiday is expected to bring a brief pause to official activities, allowing citizens to celebrate with family and friends. This break will also provide an opportunity for people to perform the traditional Qurbani ritual and spend quality time with loved ones.
