ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue has conducted a tax awareness session at the National Institute of Public Administration in Islamabad to explain income tax return filing, taxpayer obligations and recent digital reforms in tax administration.
The session was organised by FBR’s Taxpayers’ Services Wing under its Tax Awareness Outreach Programme, which aims to encourage voluntary compliance and improve public understanding of the tax system.
The FBR delegation included Muhammad Muti-ur-Rehman Mumtaz, Secretary Tax Education and Facilitation, and Abdul Rehman Sheikh, Second Secretary Tax Facilitation. NIPA Chief Instructor Ejaz Ahmed Bajwa, Marya Ahmed Sardar, Onsia Zafar and officers undergoing training attended the session.

Mumtaz briefed participants on FBR’s role in national revenue collection and outlined measures introduced to facilitate taxpayers and modernise tax administration.
He discussed major digital initiatives, including Point of Sale integration, the Track and Trace System, digital invoicing, the Faceless Customs Assessment System, cargo tracking, direct port delivery, the Reward and Rating System and video analytics for monitoring production in different sectors.
Sheikh delivered a detailed presentation on the income tax return filing process, legal requirements and digital services available to taxpayers.

Participants raised questions about the taxation of salaried individuals, return filing procedures and FBR’s tax collection mechanism. Officials responded to the queries and stressed that voluntary tax compliance was essential for broadening the country’s tax base.
FBR said the awareness session was intended to help taxpayers understand their legal responsibilities and use digital platforms more effectively when filing returns or accessing tax-related services.
Participants appreciated the outreach initiative and highlighted the importance of regular awareness sessions in promoting a stronger culture of tax compliance.
The session concluded with the distribution of souvenirs among NIPA representatives.
