FBR holds tax awareness outreach seminar at UET Lahore

Lahore, January 15, 2026: On instructions of the Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Rashid Mahmood Langrial, Taxpayers’ Services (TPS) Wing of the FBR under supervision of Member TPS Ms. Tehmina Aamer, conducted a Tax Awareness Outreach Seminar at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore. The Seminar was organised to promote understanding of taxation, encourage voluntary compliance and highlight reforms aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in Pakistan’s revenue system.

The FBR team was led by Mr. Muhammad Muti-ur-Rehman Mumtaz, Secretary Taxpayers’ Education & Facilitation, accompanied by Mr. Abdul Rehman Sheikh, Second Secretary (Facilitation). A large number of students from various departments and faculty members participated in the session. UET Lahore’s faculty members Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahid Rafique, Dean (Natural Sciences & Humanities), Mr. Muhammad Asif, Registrar, and Prof. Dr. Amir Ikram from the Business School also participated in the Seminar.

During the seminar, Mr. Mumtaz delivered a comprehensive presentation on the fundamentals of taxation and outlined key reforms under the FBR Transformation Plan, duly approved by the Honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan. The presentation highlighted major initiatives including Point of Sale (POS) Integration, Track & Trace System, Digital Invoicing, Faceless Customs, Direct Port Delivery System, Reward & Rating System, and Video Analytics for production monitoring which is currently implemented in the sugar and cement sectors and being extended to the textile sector. These integrated measures have significantly contributed to broadening the tax base, improving compliance and reinforcing transparency and accountability.

Final-year students, many of whom are engaged in freelancing and preparing to enter into their professional careers, raised several questions regarding taxation of freelancing income, which were addressed in detail by the FBR team. An interactive question-and-answer session followed, providing further clarity on tax facilitation and compliance mechanisms.

The seminar concluded with the exchange of souvenirs and giveaways as a gesture of appreciation and collaboration.

The event reaffirmed FBR’s commitment to sustained engagement with academia and its resolve to build a transparent, efficient and facilitative tax system for the country.
