GUJRANWALA: The Federal Board of Revenue held an awareness seminar at the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry to brief the business community on ongoing tax reforms aimed at expanding the tax base, improving voluntary compliance, and strengthening transparency and accountability within Pakistan’s revenue system.

The seminar was organized by the Taxpayers’ Services (TPS) Wing of the FBR under the supervision of Member TPS Ms. Tehmina Aamer. The FBR delegation included Muhammad Muti-ur-Rehman Mumtaz, Secretary Taxpayers’ Education and Facilitation, and Abdul Rehman Sheikh, Second Secretary Facilitation.

A large number of traders, industrialists, and chamber members attended the session, including Senior Vice President Saad Jamil, Vice President Faisal Sattar Mughal, as well as chairpersons of standing committees and executive members of the chamber.

Briefing on FBR transformation reforms

During the seminar, FBR officials gave a detailed presentation on reforms being implemented under the FBR Transformation Plan. Key initiatives discussed included Point of Sale integration, the Track and Trace System, digital invoicing, the faceless customs system, cargo tracking, direct port delivery, the reward and rating system, and the use of video analytics to monitor production in various sectors.

Participants were informed that video analytics has already been introduced in the sugar and cement sectors and is currently being rolled out in the textile industry. Officials said the combined implementation of these measures has contributed to improved compliance, a higher tax-to-GDP ratio, and greater transparency in revenue administration.

Interactive session with business community

The presentation was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, during which members of the business community raised concerns and queries related to tax facilitation and compliance procedures. FBR representatives responded to the questions and provided guidance on practical issues faced by taxpayers.

The seminar concluded with the presentation of souvenirs and giveaways by the FBR to office-bearers and executive members of the chamber, acknowledging their cooperation and engagement.

Officials said the event reflected the FBR’s continued commitment to constructive dialogue with the business community and its objective of building a transparent, efficient, and facilitative tax system to support the national economy.
