RAWALPINDI, October 9, 2026: Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in the opening T20 International at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, taking a 1–0 lead in the three-match series. Captain Sahibzada Farhan led the chase with an outstanding 89 off 53 balls as Pakistan reached the target of 183 in 18.5 overs.

Farhan and Sadaqat Power Pakistan’s Chase

Farhan struck 10 fours and four sixes in a commanding innings that earned him the Player of the Match award. Maaz Sadaqat supported him with a quickfire 50 off 29 deliveries, including four boundaries and three sixes. The pair added 92 runs for the second wicket, putting Pakistan firmly on course for victory.

Fakhar Zaman also made a useful contribution, scoring 21 from 13 balls as Pakistan made a brisk start. Despite losing six wickets, the hosts completed the chase with seven balls remaining.

Sri Lankan bowlers Eshan Malinga and Maheesh Theekshana claimed two wickets each, but their efforts were not enough to prevent Pakistan from securing the win.

Udara’s 91 Lifts Sri Lanka to 182

Earlier, Sri Lanka scored 182 for eight in their allotted 20 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Lahiru Udara top-scored with 91 off 55 balls, hitting 11 fours and a six. Kamindu Mendis added 23 runs, while captain Dasun Shanaka contributed 18.

Pakistan’s pace attack was led by Naseem Shah, who took three wickets for 36 runs. Mohammad Imran claimed two wickets on his T20I debut, while Razaullah, Saim Ayub and Shadab Khan picked up one wicket apiece.

Pakistan Take Early Series Lead

The victory gives Pakistan a 1–0 advantage in the three-match T20I series. The second match is scheduled to take place at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 11
