The Farabi Center, established through collaboration between Quaid-i-Azam University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, was formally inaugurated in Islamabad, marking a new step in academic and research cooperation between Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
The center was inaugurated by Nurbek Saysat, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Yerzhan Kistafin, and the rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
Speaking at the ceremony, Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said the establishment of the Farabi Center would help strengthen intercultural and academic ties between Pakistan and Kazakhstan. He congratulated both universities on launching the initiative and described it as a positive step toward deeper educational collaboration.
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education highlighted the shared historical and cultural roots of the two countries, noting that there are significant opportunities for cooperation in science, literature, poetry, history, and research. He said both institutions could play an important role in advancing work in social sciences and regional studies.
The rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University said the partnership would enable students and scholars from both universities to work together in areas such as history, culture, education, and research, adding that the collaboration could serve as a model for other academic institutions.
Vice Chancellor of Quaid-i-Azam University Niaz Ahmad Akhtar thanked the visiting dignitaries and said Pakistan-Kazakhstan relations are rooted not only in regional and cultural connections but also in shared religious and intellectual traditions.
According to university officials, the Farabi Center will focus on promoting the intellectual and philosophical heritage of Al-Farabi through education, research, and scholarly engagement. It is expected to serve as a long-term platform for joint research, interdisciplinary studies, and academic exchange in philosophy as well as contemporary scientific and technological fields.
