ABBOTTABAD (Asif Mehmood Awan): Chief Justice Peshawar High Court, Justice Syed Atiq Shah, formally inaugurated Pakistan’s first evening court in Abbottabad. The court will operate daily until 5:30 pm. It marks a historic step toward improving access to speedy justice for citizens.
Officials said the new evening court will hear minor urgency cases with sentences of less than three years. These include family disputes, tenancy issues, and injunction matters. Civil Judge Ashfaq serves as the first presiding officer. The court heard its first family case right after the inauguration.
During the ceremony, Registrar Muhammad Zeb briefed journalists about the initiative. He said this first-of-its-kind court in Pakistan helps the public, especially students and working individuals. Many people face difficulties attending hearings during regular hours, he added.
He explained that the court’s jurisdiction covers minor offenses, tenancy, injunction, and family cases requiring urgent decisions. “Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi envisioned this initiative, and the Abbottabad launch turned it into reality,” he said.
Registrar Zeb also announced plans to open similar courts in other divisional headquarters. These new courts will ensure timely and accessible justice for all. He emphasized that the reform will reduce the backlog of pending cases and meet long-standing public expectations.
“This initiative helps people receive justice within the same day,” he said. He expressed hope that it will bring a positive change to Pakistan’s judicial system.
