SIALKOT, November 3, 2026: Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba visited Sialkot on Tuesday to strengthen trade and investment relations while promoting climate cooperation through engagements with the city’s business community and the University of Sialkot.
The day-long visit, organised in collaboration with the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and the University of Sialkot, focused on expanding economic opportunities and advancing climate diplomacy between Pakistan and Ethiopia.
The ambassador, accompanied by a delegation from the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad, began his visit by participating in a tree plantation drive alongside students and faculty members of the University of Sialkot.

The plantation activity was followed by a Green Legacy Forum, reflecting ongoing cooperation between the university and the Ethiopian Embassy to promote environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Oba appreciated the University of Sialkot for strengthening bilateral cooperation and emphasised the importance of climate diplomacy in supporting sustainable development and prosperity across the Global South.

Faisal Manzoor, Chairman of the University of Sialkot’s Board of Governors, praised Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative and said the programme offered lessons for Pakistan in addressing environmental challenges.
The ambassador also held discussions with Sialkot’s business community at the university and the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry to explore opportunities for trade, investment and industrial cooperation.

Speaking at a business forum organised by SCCI, Ambassador Oba highlighted Ethiopia’s investment potential, citing the availability of skilled labour, affordable and sustainable energy, regional economic integration and access to wider African markets.
He invited Sialkot-based entrepreneurs and industrialists to join a trade and investment delegation to Ethiopia, which the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad plans to organise early next year.
SCCI Senior Vice President Asad Naseer Malik highlighted opportunities for Sialkot businesses in Ethiopia across several sectors, including food-related industries, leather and leather products, surgical instruments, sports goods and textiles.
He noted that Sialkot’s established industrial expertise could provide opportunities for expanding commercial engagement with Ethiopia.
During the visit, Ambassador Oba also toured Nizam Sons Group and met its Chief Executive Officer Ameen Ahsan.

Their discussions focused on exploring bilateral cooperation in the sports goods, leather and aviation sectors.
The visit brought together diplomatic, academic and business stakeholders to identify opportunities for stronger Pakistan-Ethiopia cooperation in environmental sustainability, trade and investment.
