ISLAMABAD — Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba, met with International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Director Geir T. Tonstol in Islamabad to discuss cooperation on human resource development and labour-related initiatives.
The meeting, held at the Ethiopian Embassy, focused on the Ethiopia–ILO cooperation in areas such as workforce development, labour standards and industrial relations, according to officials familiar with the discussions.
During the meeting, Ambassador Oumer highlighted Ethiopia’s role in promoting regional integration and economic connectivity through diplomatic engagement and infrastructure development.
He also briefed the ILO representative on the country’s investment in large-scale infrastructure projects, including aviation and railway networks, aimed at strengthening regional trade and mobility.
ILO Country Director Geir T. Tonstol acknowledged Ethiopia’s progress in economic and institutional development and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting improved workplace environments and labour standards.
Tonstol also recalled his previous stay in Ethiopia and noted the country’s cultural heritage and tourism potential.
Officials said the discussion reflected ongoing engagement between Ethiopia and the ILO on labour policies and institutional cooperation.
