LONDON: Essex cricketer Robin Das has been charged with two counts of rape following an investigation into reports concerning a woman in Brixton, south London.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the 24-year-old Das was arrested in August 2025 following reports of an alleged rape in Brixton in March 2024. He was subsequently charged in July 2026 with two counts of rape.
Das is scheduled to appear at Inner London Crown Court on October 9.
Essex County Cricket Club has confirmed that Das has been suspended following the charges. The club said the matter concerns an incident outside its cricket activities and that it remains in contact with the relevant authorities during the legal proceedings.
The Metropolitan Police said the woman involved is being supported by specialist officers.
Das made his Essex debut in 2020 and has represented the county in first-class, List A and T20 cricket.
The charges are allegations, and any determination of guilt will be made through the court process.
