Pakistani students planning to pursue a fully funded master’s degree in Europe have a major opportunity as applications have opened for the Erasmus Mundus MESPOM Scholarship for the 2026–2028 academic cycle.

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management (MESPOM), funded by the European Commission, offers selected students from Pakistan and other countries the chance to study at multiple top-ranked European universities under a single, internationally recognised programme.

What is the Erasmus Mundus MESPOM Scholarship?

The Erasmus Mundus MESPOM Scholarship is part of the European Union’s flagship Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees initiative. The two-year programme is designed for students seeking advanced training in environmental sciences, sustainability policy and management, with a strong focus on global environmental challenges.

For Pakistani applicants, the programme provides international exposure, academic mobility across Europe and a degree recognised by employers, governments and universities worldwide.

What the Erasmus Mundus MESPOM Scholarship covers

Students selected under the Erasmus Mundus MESPOM Scholarship receive one of Europe’s most comprehensive funding packages. The scholarship covers full tuition fees for the entire 24-month programme, travel costs between host countries, visa and installation expenses, and a monthly stipend to cover living costs.

The programme also accepts a limited number of self-financing students, offering an alternative pathway for applicants who may not secure the scholarship.

Study pathway across European universities

The MESPOM master’s programme carries 120 ECTS credits and is delivered across multiple European institutions. Students begin their studies at Central European University in Vienna, where they focus on interdisciplinary foundations in environmental policy and sustainability.

They then move to the University of the Aegean in Greece for specialised training in environmental sciences and resource management. In the second year, students choose between Lund University in Sweden or the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, followed by an international internship and a master’s thesis.

Eligibility for Pakistani applicants

Pakistani students applying for the Erasmus Mundus MESPOM Scholarship must hold a strong bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, generally with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or its international equivalent. Applicants from environmental sciences, social sciences, engineering, public policy, management and related fields are eligible.

Candidates from other academic backgrounds may also be considered if they demonstrate clear motivation and experience related to environmental or sustainability challenges. English language proficiency and strong academic merit are essential.

Career opportunities after MESPOM

Graduates of the Erasmus Mundus MESPOM programme work in government institutions, international organisations such as UN agencies, environmental NGOs, research centres, consulting firms and academic PhD programmes.

For Pakistani graduates, the degree offers opportunities both internationally and within Pakistan’s growing environmental, climate and sustainability sectors.

Application deadlines for 2026 intake

Applications for the Erasmus Mundus MESPOM Scholarship are submitted online through Central European University on behalf of the consortium. The deadline for scholarship applicants is January 7, 2026. Self-financing applicants from non-EU countries who require a study visa must apply by April 15, 2026, while EU applicants have until July 15, 2026.

Education advisors recommend early preparation, as competition for Erasmus Mundus scholarships remains extremely high.
