According to a report from a US newspaper, Tesla founder Elon Musk has placed a bid of $97.4 billion to acquire the renowned company, OpenAI. The bid was submitted by Musk’s lawyer to OpenAI’s board of directors.
However, OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, rejected the offer and sarcastically responded on X (formerly Twitter) saying, “Thanks for the offer! We are not selling OpenAI, but if you want, we are open to selling Twitter for $9.74 billion.”
It’s worth noting that Musk has had ongoing disputes with Sam Altman and has filed lawsuits against both OpenAI and Altman.
Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 with Sam Altman and Greg Brockman but separated from the company in 2018, citing concerns that AI technology could pose a threat greater than nuclear weapons. Later, in 2023, Musk launched his own AI company, “xAI,” aiming to make a significant impact in the artificial intelligence field.
