Eight Asian Cities Ranked Among World’s Best to Live, Work, and Visit in 2026

4 Min Read

Resonance Consultancy, in collaboration with Ipsos, has published the 2026 World’s Best Cities Report, a global survey that examined more than 270 major urban centers worldwide, each with populations over one million. From this vast pool, just 20, including eight asian cities, emerged as the very best places to live, work, and visit, reflecting the destinations that are shaping the future of global urban life.

The ranking is built on the Place Power Score, which measures cities across three pillars: liveability (quality of life and safety), lovability (culture, nightlife, and visitor appeal), and prosperity (economic strength and opportunities). This year, the methodology was broadened to include startup ecosystems, digital engagement, cultural depth, climate resilience, and social media influence, ensuring a more comprehensive global perspective.

Global Leaders

  • London retained its crown as the world’s leading city, praised for its economic prosperity, cultural depth, and global connectivity.
  • New York City ranked second overall and first in the U.S., driven by its diverse economy, cultural dominance, and major infrastructure upgrades.
  • Paris placed third, continuing to shine as a hub of liveability and cultural appeal, despite slipping one position from last year.

Asian Cities in the Spotlight

Why It Matters for Asians in 2026

For millions across Asia, the 2026 ranking carries a practical message: you don’t need to look too far abroad to find the world’s best cities. With eight Asian cities spread across East Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East, the region itself offers world‑class opportunities for work, lifestyle, and travel. Whether it’s tech innovation in Seoul, financial power in Shanghai, cultural depth in Tokyo, or tourism appeal in Dubai, Asia’s cities are proving they can rival, and often surpass, Western hubs.

These Asian cities aren’t just attractive places to live — they also provide strong ecosystems for work and business, while remaining highly desirable for tourism and cultural exploration. The report underscores how urban centers that balance prosperity with cultural depth and visitor appeal are defining the future of global city life — and for Asians, many of those destinations are already close to home.
