ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Monday approved a series of export promotion measures, including new financing schemes and incentives aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s export sector, supporting industries and improving access to finance for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb at the Finance Division, where the committee reviewed multiple economic proposals from different ministries.
The ECC approved three export finance support schemes submitted by the Finance Division, including expansion of the EXIM-administered Export Finance Scheme (E-EFS), the launch of the Long Term Export Growth Financing Facility (LTEGFF), and a performance-based rebate on incremental exports.
New Export Financing Measures Approved
According to the Finance Division, the approved package aims to provide exporters with fixed low-rate financing, strengthen support for export-oriented industries and encourage greater participation of SMEs in international trade.
The ECC directed that a six-month performance report on the schemes be presented to evaluate their impact and effectiveness.
The measures are part of broader efforts to enhance export competitiveness, increase industrial activity and improve Pakistan’s position in global markets.
Rs4 Billion Approved for Power Sector Arbitration Costs
The ECC also approved a Technical Supplementary Grant (TSG) of Rs4 billion for the Power Division to meet expenses related to international arbitration proceedings involving independent power producers (IPPs) and major utility shareholders.
The committee further approved a proposal regarding the adjustment of pensioners of closed Generation Companies (GENCOs) with their respective power distribution companies (DISCOs) for payment of retirement benefits.
Energy Sector Decisions
The ECC approved a Petroleum Division proposal to declare the Pab reservoir in the Rehman-8 ST-3 well as a Tight Gas Reservoir under the Tight Gas (Exploration & Production) Policy 2011.
The committee also approved tariff fixation for indigenous gas supplies provided to RLNG-based power plants operating on the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) network during April, May and June 2026.
EOBI Budget Estimates Approved
The ECC approved budget estimates of the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) for fiscal year 2025-26, along with revised budget estimates for FY 2024-25 submitted by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal (virtually), Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Education Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Investment Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh (virtually), Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan.
Senior officials from relevant ministries, divisions and regulatory bodies also participated in the meeting.
