London: British singer Dua Lipa has made a rare political statement on the situation in Iran, drawing mixed reactions from her followers on social media.
The pop star shared a statement on her Instagram Stories from her editorial platform Service 95, highlighting concerns over an ongoing government crackdown and internet restrictions in Iran. Alongside the post, Lipa wrote, “Keep your eyes on Iran.”
The shared statement cited reports of widespread violence and severe communication disruptions. “In Iran, we are seeing slaughter at a scale like never before,” the message read, adding that large sections of the population had been cut off from global communication.

According to the post, citing Human Rights Activists in Iran, more than 90 million people in Iran were experiencing internet blackouts, restricting the flow of information both into and out of the country.

The statement further said that since protests began on December 28 over economic conditions, the rights group has verified the deaths of 5,002 people, including 43 children under the age of 18, while more than 12,000 additional cases are still under review.
Lipa’s comments prompted varied reactions among her followers. Many Iranian users thanked the singer for drawing international attention to the situation, while others, including supporters of the Iranian government, criticised her for what they described as interference and for echoing narratives opposed to the state.
The singer is known primarily for avoiding political commentary, making her intervention on Iran notable among her public engagements.
