The Punjab government has launched a new double-decker bus service to promote regional tourism, connecting Lahore with the historic sites of Sheikhupura. Operated by the Punjab Tourism and Archaeology Department, the service runs every Saturday and Sunday, offering guided tours to cultural landmarks.

Priced at Rs. 1,200 per person, the weekend tour includes visits to the shrine of Pir Waris Shah and the iconic Hiran Minar. Tourists enjoyed boating, cycling, and a traditional Heer Khwani (recital of Heer), adding a rich cultural layer to the experience.

Citizens praised the initiative as a milestone for heritage tourism. Many said the two-day journey gave new visibility to Sheikhupura’s historical identity and sparked interest among residents of Lahore and nearby districts.

Deputy Commissioner Shahid Imran Marth stated that Sheikhupura is being developed into a tourism hub. Additional Secretary Tourism Sadaf Zafar emphasized that the project aims to boost the local economy while preserving cultural landmarks.

The double-decker bus service is expected to attract weekend travelers, families, and history enthusiasts looking for affordable, curated experiences. By linking urban centers with heritage sites, Punjab’s tourism strategy blends accessibility with cultural pride.

Officials hope the double-decker bus model will inspire similar tourism initiatives across the province, turning historic cities into weekend destinations.
