SWAT: Survivors of the recent floods in Swat are now grappling with outbreaks of eye infections, skin diseases, and stomach-related illnesses in Mingora and nearby affected localities.

Hundreds of women and children have been rushing to free medical camps organized by welfare groups, citing contaminated water and poor sanitation as the main causes of rashes, abdominal pain, and conjunctivitis. Affected families lamented the absence of official health relief teams, accusing the health department of negligence.

Local journalist Adnan Bacha criticized the authorities, terming their performance “disappointing” and warning of a looming humanitarian crisis if immediate action is not taken.

Doctors working at the camps, including Dr Saqib Ali Shah from Islamabad and Lady Doctor Marwa Khan of Swat, reported that most patients are suffering from skin infections and eye diseases, while other contagious illnesses are spreading rapidly.

Health experts cautioned that without timely medical aid and essential medicines, the situation could spiral into a serious public health emergency.
