The district administration, in collaboration with the District Youth Office Dir Lower, Malakand Youth Assembly, and the Child Protection Unit, organized a seminar at Government High School Balambat to commemorate International Human Rights Day 2024. This year’s theme is “Our Rights, Our Future, Now”. The purpose of International Human Rights Day is to raise awareness and encourage action to uphold human rights globally.The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Bashir Khan (ADC Dir Lower), Abdul Saleem Khan (Principal GHS Balambat), Tayyab (Child Protection Officer), and Shahzad Tariq (District Youth Officer Malik Shahzad Tariq).Prominent human rights activist Akbar Khan shed light on the importance of the day. In his speech, he outlined the concept of human rights and elaborated on this year’s theme. He emphasized that the day aims to raise awareness about individuals’ physical, social, and cultural rights and ensure their welfare. He also explained the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) to the students.Student participation added enthusiasm to the event and led to an engaging question-and-answer session. Deputy Commissioner Bashir Khan shared his thoughts on the role of the commission in promoting human rights in the country.Principal Abdul Saleem of GHS Balambat discussed the global framework of human rights law and the implementation status of international human rights treaties.
Tayyab, the District Child Protection Officer, highlighted the importance of child protection and the supporting legal framework. He elaborated on various laws and regulations designed to protect children’s rights and ensure their welfare. This included the mechanisms for reporting abuse, providing support services for affected children, and promoting awareness of children’s rights within the community.At the conclusion of the event, participants were presented with certificates of appreciation, and shields were awarded to the guests and other key figures.
