ISLAMABAD, October 19, 2026: Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the holy sites of Makkah and Madinah, with Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry declaring that there can be no compromise on the security of Islam’s two holiest mosques.
Speaking in an interview with an Arab television channel, the military spokesperson said safeguarding Saudi Arabia and the Two Holy Mosques, Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi, remains among Pakistan’s foremost priorities.
He said Pakistan’s position was clear and unequivocal, adding that the country’s political leadership and the Field Marshal had already conveyed Islamabad’s stance on the matter.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said attacks on sacred Islamic sites had caused deep anger and concern among the Pakistani public as well as the country’s political and military leadership.
DG ISPR highlights Makkah defence alliance
Discussing regional defence cooperation, the DG ISPR said the Makkah joint defence agreement had progressed rapidly and reflected the shared vision of three countries.
He stressed that escalating conflicts at any level would not benefit any country, warning against further military confrontation in the Middle East.
According to the military spokesperson, the alliance is intended to strengthen regional security rather than pursue aggressive military objectives.
He said its leadership and strategic direction were clearly defined, emphasising that the arrangement was not directed against any particular country.
Collective deterrence if diplomatic efforts fail
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said negotiations remained essential to resolving the ongoing military confrontation in the Middle East.
However, he warned that if diplomatic efforts failed and military confrontation continued, the Makkah alliance’s collective deterrence mechanism could come into operation.
He maintained that the alliance had no offensive intentions and was designed to promote peace, stability and security across the region.
The DG ISPR reiterated that expanding the military conflict would serve no country’s interests, underscoring the need for dialogue and a negotiated settlement.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye support regional stability
Highlighting cooperation among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, the military spokesperson said all three countries shared a commitment to regional peace, stability and prosperity.
He called for greater unity among Muslim countries, stressing that internal conflicts and divisions would weaken collective efforts to address regional security challenges.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Muslim nations needed to strengthen cooperation rather than engage in confrontation with one another.
His remarks underscored Pakistan’s stated commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security, the protection of Islamic holy sites and diplomatic efforts to prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East.
