DG ISPR Engages Media on National Security and Policy
Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry held an informal interaction with journalists, during which he discussed key national security issues, counterterrorism operations, and Pakistan’s regional and internal security policy.
Peacekeeping in Gaza: Decision Lies with Civilian Leadership
Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry clarified that the decision regarding Pakistan’s participation in any potential peacekeeping mission for Gaza would be taken by the government and parliament, emphasizing that such strategic decisions fall strictly under the domain of the state.
Pakistan’s Defense Policy: Independent and Uncompromised
He reaffirmed that Pakistan is fully prepared to defend its borders and people, underscoring that the country’s policies are made independently without external influence.
DG ISPR Shares Counterterrorism Statistics and Sacrifices
Speaking about ongoing counterterrorism efforts, the DG ISPR revealed that during operations against the militant network “Fitna al-Khawarij,” a total of 1,667 terrorists were eliminated, while this year alone, 62,113 operations were conducted across the country, mostly in Balochistan, resulting in the martyrdom of 582 soldiers.
Military Reiterates Neutrality in Political Affairs
Lt Gen Chaudhry made it clear that the Pakistan Army does not wish to be involved in politics and should be kept away from political controversies. He said that decisions regarding the imposition of Governor’s Rule lie solely with the government, not the military.
Organized Crime and Smuggling: A Growing Threat
The ISPR chief said that criminal and terrorist groups are obstructing the fight against organized crime and smuggling in Pakistan. On the situation in Afghanistan, he noted that Afghan conditions or demands hold no significance, as the elimination of terrorism remains Pakistan’s top priority.
Afghan Drug Smuggling and Political Influence
Lt Gen Chaudhry accused certain drug smugglers in Afghanistan of having influence in Afghan politics, adding that large quantities of narcotics are being smuggled from Afghanistan into Pakistan. He remarked, “If anyone feels an overwhelming affection for Afghanistan, they are free to move there.”
TTP’s Allegiance to Afghan Taliban Raises Alarm
He further stated that terrorist groups are collecting taxes in the name of “Ushr,” and that the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has pledged allegiance to the Amir of the Afghan Taliban, effectively making it a branch of the Afghan Taliban.
Border Escalation: Heavy Militant Casualties Reported
During the recent escalation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, 206 Afghan Taliban and 112 militants from the Fitna al-Khawarij network were killed, he said.
India’s Alleged False Flag Plans Met with Stern Warning
The DG ISPR also warned that India is preparing another false flag operation in deep sea waters, asserting, “India may do whatever it plans — on land, sea, or air — but it must know that this time, Pakistan’s response will be far more severe.”
Madrassa Growth and the Call for Reform
He added that in 2014, there were 48,000 madrassas in Pakistan, and now the number has exceeded 100,000, stressing the need for continued monitoring and reform.
Pakistan’s Afghanistan Policy: Security First, Dialogue Always
DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry concluded by saying that Pakistan’s policy toward Afghanistan is based on a single-point agenda: Afghan soil must not be used against Pakistan. He said Pakistan’s response to cross-border threats has been swift and decisive, and that Islamabad continues to seek constructive engagement with Kabul to ensure peace and stability in the region.
