PESHAWAR: Security forces killed eight militants, including three key commanders, during an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, security sources said on Sunday.
According to the sources, the operation was launched after intelligence reports indicated the presence of militants in the area.
The sources said all eight militants killed in the operation were associated with Fitna al-Khawarij, a term used by Pakistani authorities for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
Three of those killed were described by security sources as key militant commanders.
Security personnel also recovered foreign currency along with a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the militants, the sources added.
The operation was carried out as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision.
Security sources said the forces remained committed to eliminating terrorism and restoring lasting peace in the province.
