In a historic moment, Denmark has won the title of Miss Universe for the first time. 21-year-old Victoria Kjaer from Denmark was crowned Miss Universe at the 73rd edition of the competition held in Mexico.
The final took place on November 17, with 130 contestants from around the world, including women over the age of 28, making it the first time such participants were allowed. For the first time in Miss Universe history, the competition also included married women, mothers, and transgender contestants.
In the Miss Universe final, the second position was claimed by a contestant from Nigeria, while Denmark’s Victoria Kjaer made history by becoming the first-ever Miss Universe from her country.
Victoria Kjaer, who was crowned Miss Universe at the age of 21, is not only an advocate for animal rights but also a dancer and entrepreneur.
This year’s competition took place for the fifth time in Mexico City, a country where many previous Miss Universe titleholders have emerged. Notably, a 40-year-old woman participated in this year’s event, alongside married women and mothers.
Venezuela’s 28-year-old Miss Venezuela was also part of the competition, making history as the first woman from Venezuela to be crowned Miss Venezuela after giving birth.
The Miss Universe organizers had announced in 2023 that women of all ages, married women, mothers, plus-sized women, and transgender contestants would be included in the competition. Traditionally, beauty pageants allowed only unmarried, under-28 women to compete.
