Dengue Cases Rise to 42 in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: Dengue continues to spread in Rawalpindi, with five more cases reported during the past 24 hours, taking the total number of dengue cases reported in the city this year to 42.

According to the Health Department, 12 patients are currently under treatment at hospitals, of whom 10 have been confirmed to have dengue. No dengue-related death has been reported in Rawalpindi so far this year.

Health officials said the dengue threat is expected to remain until the weather becomes colder. A total of 5,161 people suspected of having dengue have been screened, while 4,762 cases have been classified as suspected.

Twelve dengue cases have been reported so far in October, while 27 cases were recorded in September.

As part of dengue surveillance activities, more than 5.269 million houses have been inspected. Dengue larvae were detected in 182,850 homes.

Authorities have registered 2,798 cases, sealed 686 locations and issued 2,331 challans over violations of dengue-related SOPs. Fines totaling Rs31.56 million have also been imposed.

The Health Department said 1,400 dengue surveillance teams are currently active in the field, including 415 outdoor teams and 985 indoor teams. The city has 17,859 identified dengue hotspots.

Last week, dengue surveillance achieved 97 percent coverage. The highest Breteau Index was recorded at CTC-8 in Chaklala Cantonment at 23.94, followed by Takht Pari Potohar Rural at 19.96.

Dhok Najju, Dhoke Babu Irfan and Ratta Amral have also been identified among the high-risk areas for dengue larvae.
