Cybercrime experts and social media specialists have advised citizens not to use free VPNs.
Although people consider VPNs a secure way to browse the internet, many unknowingly give away their data to companies in the pursuit of free services. For this reason, cybercrime experts and social media specialists warn against using free VPNs.
According to the FIA, the risk of data theft is significantly higher with free VPNs.
Deputy Director of Cybercrime, Waqas Saeed, stated that criminals believe they can evade detection by using VPNs, but VPN companies also provide records to the FIA, allowing authorities to trace connected devices.
Waqas Saeed further mentioned that in some cases, they have successfully tracked individuals.
He explained that while VPNs have both positive and negative uses, free VPNs compromise user data, as these companies often request access to users’ information.
