CUI rector seeks land for Karachi, Quetta campuses in meeting with education minister

ISLAMABAD: Rector of COMSATS University Islamabad, Prof Dr Raheel Qamar, met Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui to discuss expansion plans and higher education initiatives.

During the meeting, the rector requested allocation of land for establishing new COMSATS campuses in Karachi and Quetta. The minister expressed support for the proposal and indicated willingness to facilitate the development of the campuses.

Both sides also discussed the upcoming 46th Session of the Executive Council and the 15th General Conference of ICESCO, scheduled to be held in Kazan from May 13 to 15, 2026. Prof Qamar conveyed interest in hosting a future ICESCO General Conference in Pakistan.

The rector briefed the minister on ongoing initiatives at the university, including employee upskilling programmes and the implementation of an Electronic Filing System (EFS) to improve administrative efficiency and support environmental sustainability.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening higher education and promoting innovation-driven development in Pakistan.
