CUI and INTI Malaysia sign MoU to expand academic collaboration and research ties

Islamabad — April 04, 2026: COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) and INTI International University, Malaysia, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic collaboration, research partnerships and institutional exchange between the two universities.

The agreement was formalized during a virtual signing ceremony attended by senior officials from both institutions, along with representatives from the Malaysian High Commission in Islamabad. The MoU aims to promote cooperation in areas including student and faculty exchange, joint research and supervision, academic publications and participation in international events.

The document was signed by INTI’s Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Goh Khang Wen and CUI Registrar Dr. Fahim A. Qureshi, in the presence of CUI Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar and Malaysian Deputy Head of Mission Mohammed Syafik Firdaus Bin Hasbullah.

Focus on research and academic exchange

Under the agreement, both universities will collaborate on MS and PhD supervision, co-publications and knowledge sharing. The partnership also includes plans for establishing joint academic centres and facilitating cultural exchange between students and faculty.

Officials said the MoU is intended to expand institutional cooperation beyond traditional academic exchange, with a focus on strengthening research capacity and international engagement.

Emphasis on innovation and regional cooperation

Speaking at the ceremony, CUI Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar highlighted the university’s recent initiatives, including the implementation of an AI-driven governance and paperless electronic filing system across its campuses.

He said the partnership could serve as a platform for broader regional cooperation in science, technology and innovation, supporting knowledge transfer and academic development.

The Malaysian Deputy Head of Mission described the agreement as a reflection of longstanding educational ties between Pakistan and Malaysia, adding that it represents a shared commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering innovation.

The MoU marks another step in expanding academic linkages between institutions in both countries, with a focus on collaboration, research and capacity building.
