ISLAMABAD, Jan 7 — Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Islamabad, Hamza Humayun, met with members of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) to discuss traffic and parking challenges affecting the capital’s business districts. During the session, he announced plans for a smart traffic app and the launch of Islamabad’s first women driving school.

The meeting, attended by a large number of business leaders, focused on improving traffic flow and parking management in commercial zones. The CTO emphasized that resolving these issues is essential not only for public convenience but also for supporting economic activity in the city.

Hamza Humayun noted that Islamabad’s roads currently accommodate around 1.7 million vehicles, while the sanctioned strength of traffic police personnel stands at just 550. Despite limited resources, officers are working extended hours, often without weekly breaks, to manage traffic across the capital.

He also highlighted the role of the ITP Cavalry — a group of 120 university student volunteers assisting traffic police in maintaining order. Business leaders were encouraged to support the initiative by motivating students from their communities to participate.

Addressing road safety, the CTO said lane violations remain a leading cause of fatal accidents. He reaffirmed Islamabad Traffic Police’s commitment to strict enforcement and public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing such incidents.

Among the new initiatives, Hamza Humayun announced the development of a Google-integrated mobile application that will provide real-time updates on road closures and traffic conditions. He also shared plans to open a women-only driving school, staffed entirely by female instructors, by the end of the month — a move aimed at promoting inclusivity and empowerment.

To streamline coordination between the police and business community, Aisha Jamil, Station Director of ICT FM, was appointed as the focal person for ICCI members seeking assistance with traffic-related concerns.

ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood welcomed the CTO’s visit and praised the efforts of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Inspector General of Police Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Naqvi in making the capital safer and more business-friendly. He reiterated that traffic and parking solutions are vital to sustaining commercial growth.

Senior ICCI officials Tahir Ayub and Irfan Chaudhry outlined the Chamber’s ongoing efforts to support traders and entrepreneurs. The session also featured input from executive members and trade leaders, who raised area-specific concerns and offered suggestions for improvement.

The event was moderated by Saif ur Rehman, Chairman of ICCI’s Standing Committee on Liaison with Police, and reflected strong collaboration between law enforcement and the business community.
