Portugal’s football federation has reportedly initiated disciplinary proceedings against Cristiano Ronaldo after the star forward left the national team camp following a disagreement with coach Jorge Jesus over playing time.

Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo could face a suspension after leaving the national team camp in protest over a dispute concerning his playing time.

According to reports, the Portuguese Football Federation has launched disciplinary proceedings under its regulations following the incident. The length of any potential suspension will be determined by the disciplinary council and could range from one to six months.

If the suspension exceeds one month, Ronaldo could miss Portugal’s upcoming Nations League matches against Denmark and Wales next month. However, an ESPN report cited in the original coverage suggests that a shorter suspension is considered more likely.

Ronaldo has apologised to his national teammates and the Portuguese public, acknowledging that leaving the training camp was a mistake.

In his statement, the forward said he was disappointed by what he viewed as a failure to honour a promise made by the coach. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that his actions should have consequences and stressed that the rules must apply equally to everyone.

Coach Jorge Jesus said he had read Ronaldo’s statement and was now focused on the team’s affairs.

Ronaldo remains one of Portugal’s most prominent football figures. According to the report, he has made 234 appearances for the national team and scored a record 146 goals.

The disciplinary council’s decision will determine whether the incident results in a suspension and how it could affect Ronaldo’s availability for Portugal’s upcoming fixtures.
