On the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Deputy Commissioner Chakwal, Qurat-ul-Ain Malik, price-checking teams have increased their inspections. Since February 27, officials have checked 6,779 shops, and 1,340 were found breaking the rules.
For not following the price list, fines of Rs. 615,500 were given to 475 shopkeepers. Also, 29 people were arrested, and two shopkeepers faced legal action for overcharging customers.
Deputy Commissioner Qurat-ul-Ain Malik warned that traders involved in hoarding and overpricing will not be spared, and the crackdown will continue across the district.
