In a major milestone aligned with the vision of the Chief Minister of Punjab, a 43-year lease agreement was signed between COMSATS University Islamabad and the Punjab Workers Welfare Fund (PWWF).
This landmark extension reflects the continued confidence of the Chief Minister in COMSATS University Islamabad’s capability to deliver quality education to the children of laborers across Punjab. Recognized globally as one of Pakistan’s top public sector universities, COMSATS has long played a pivotal role in uplifting marginalized communities through access to higher education. The extension has been widely welcomed by academic and scientific communities across the country as a progressive step forward.
The agreement was formally signed by the Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Mr. Khalid Hussain Magsi, and Punjab’s Minister for Labour, Mr. Faisal Ayub Khokhar. The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Sajid Qamar, Rector of COMSATS University Islamabad, along with senior university officials.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Sajid Qamar underscored the University’s longstanding commitment to the welfare of the labour community. He expressed deep appreciation to the Government of Punjab for its trust and support, noting that the lease extension will further strengthen collaboration between COMSATS University and PWWF. He commended the forward-looking vision of the Chief Minister and the proactive efforts of the Punjab Labour Minister, highlighting the government’s prioritization of higher education—particularly for girls and underprivileged youth in the province.
Prof. Qamar shared that, over the past 24 years, COMSATS University has enabled the graduation of 8,790 students through PWWF-reserved seats, offering tuition fee waivers exceeding PKR 8 billion. This initiative has had a transformational impact on the socio-economic mobility of labour families across Punjab.
Reaffirming the University’s commitment to inclusive education, Prof. Qamar lauded the Punjab Government’s progressive agenda and reiterated COMSATS University’s continued support in furthering higher education in the province. He emphasized the importance of sustained government patronage, especially in the fields of Information Science and Technology, to meet emerging national and global challenges.
The Rector also extended an invitation to the Chief Minister to inaugurate the upcoming development projects on the leased site—projects envisioned to further advance education, innovation, and opportunity for the youth of Punjab.
