COMSATS tops Pakistan in Mathematics in QS Subject Rankings 2026

ISLAMABAD: COMSATS University Islamabad has secured the top position in Pakistan for Mathematics in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, achieving a global rank of 111 and reinforcing its standing in science-focused education.

The latest rankings place COMSATS among globally ranked institutions across multiple disciplines, reflecting its expanding academic footprint and research output. The university’s performance highlights Pakistan’s growing presence in key subject areas evaluated on international benchmarks.

Rankings across multiple disciplines

In addition to Mathematics, COMSATS earned global placements in several fields, including Engineering and Technology (221), Computer Science (180), Economics (201–250), Physics (251–300), Environmental Sciences (301–350), and Accounting and Finance (301–375).

In Economics, the university shares the 201–250 band with Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), while in Environmental Sciences it appears alongside National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and Quaid-i-Azam University within the same ranking range.

Focus on research and academic performance

Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar said the achievement reflects a sustained focus on research quality and academic depth.

“Achieving the top national position in Mathematics and maintaining visibility across multiple disciplines reflects a deliberate shift towards high-impact research and measurable academic performance,” he said, adding that the university aims to strengthen core scientific areas where Pakistan can compete globally.

Global evaluation criteria

The QS subject rankings evaluate universities worldwide based on several indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations, and international research collaborations.

COMSATS University Islamabad, operating under the Ministry of Science and Technology, is a public sector institution with seven campuses across Pakistan. It is widely recognized for its emphasis on science, technology, and innovation-driven education.
